		<description>TEDxSANJOSECA GRAPHIC RECORDING
Live &#38; life-sized visualization, 2012

I was the official graphic recorder for TEDxSanJose 2012. I visualized over 22 lectures from a diverse cross-section of makers, thinkers, and doers from 14-year-old entrepreneurs to established research scientists. These visualizations are massive murals (8 ft x 4 ft) drawn on butcher paper live during the duration of the lectures.

		<description>TEDxMidWest GRAPHIC RECORDING
Live &#38; life-sized visualization, 2011

I had the opportunity to be the official graphic recorder for TEDxMidwest 2011 and Chicago Ideas Week 2011. Over 5 days I visualized close to 50 lectures from some of the most interesting thinkers and makers working today. These visualizations are massive murals (4 ft x 8 ft) drawn on butcher paper live during the duration of the lectures.

		<description>ILLUSTRATIONS FOR DWELL MAGAZINE
Editorial Illustrations, 2011-present

Ongoing illustrations for Dwell magazine's In The Modern World section. Each month I create a "visual table of contents" consisting of absurdist misinterpretations of the articles within. You can see selections from this series in more detail via the #dwell tag.

More misguided ideas can be seen at my sketchblog.

		<description>SHARPENER JAR
Self-production, 2011

Sharpener Jar allows the modern artist to quantify their creative output.

Akin to a scientific lab test, pencil shavings are treated as measurable creative data that can be sealed &#38; archived for future reference. Sharpener Jar is enabled by a custom-milled brass pencil sharpener with a screw top that allows it to be universally fastened to jars of any size or brand.

Sharpener Jar will be available for purchase in Early 2012.
Originally created for USE ME—an exhibition curated by the American Design Club during ICFF 2011.

		<description>RUBBER BAND CUBE
Exhibition Prototype, 2011

A cliché icon of modern office culture—the rubber band ball—reconstructed as a DIY pencil cup.

The Rubber Band Cube is slowly completed over time by collecting rubber bands and stretching them around the welded metal framework. The cube will grow and take on new forms over time, resulting in the same pride one feels from maintaining a large rubber band ball for years.

Originally created for USE ME—an exhibition curated by the American Design Club during ICFF 2011. Rubber Band Cube received 3rd place.

		<description>COIL PENDANT
Self-production, 2011

Coil Pendant reduces the hanging lamp to the absolute minimum of defining elements. A single electrical cord coils around what appears to be an empty volume, defining the iconic form of a table lamp and ultimately powering a single light bulb.

The entire lamp is created exclusively from a 100 foot extension cord that has been wrapped around a laser-cut clear acrylic form. This simple transformation elevates the status of the humble extension cord to the realm of domestic design.

Coil Lamp is is available for purchase in two forms: Handmade &#38; DIY Kit.
Originally created for USE ME—an exhibition curated by the American Design Club during ICFF 2011.

		<description>SELECTED SKETCHNOTES
Live Reportage, 2008-present

Selections of personal notes recorded during various conferences and lectures. All spreads are sketched live in a Moleskine as the talk unfolds, and are presented here in their raw state. See more via the #sketchnotes tag in the blog. I also author the Sketchnotes channel for Core77.com, where I where I explore the application of visual thinking tools in the worlds of design and creative thinking.
